Birmingham Heritage Week talk

On 11 September 2018 Friends of the Golden Lion are putting on an event as part of Birmingham Heritage Week 2018. Entitled “The History and Mysteries of The Golden Lion” this two-part talk is presented in conjunction with Brum’s Ghost Signs.

In Deritend high street, 1908, three years before the move.

When the building was moved to Cannon Hill Park an inn signboard was hung up, depicting a Golden Lion. However it was never operated as an actual pub in the park. Join us to explore the history of the old inn sign and unravel its story and journey through time. The signboard’s condition has been deteriorating over recent years, and we have now taken it down to save it from falling. The sign will be on display at the talk.

And where exactly did the building originally stand? In the second part of the talk we’ll share our research using old photographs and the current street view as we piece together evidence to locate where it was moved from.

The talk will be in Moseley All Services Club, Church Road, Moseley B13 9EA, on Tuesday 11th September. Doors open at 7.00pm with the talk from 7.30 to 8.30pm. The bar will be open afterwards and you are welcome to stay on and chat with other visitors and the presenters.

Tickets are £3 and can be purchased online at

We are raising funds to place a new informational sign outside the Golden Lion. We want to provide fresh details about the building and its history and explain our future plans. Please consider including a donation with your ticket.
